Microsoft designed Excel to handle large data sets and automate tasks such as calculation and data entry (TestOut, 2024). Teachers enjoy spreadsheets because they calculate grades and track classroom analytics, leaving them more time to spend with students (GarcĂa, 2024). People use spreadsheets to track various tasks and data, such as time spent on activities.
Presentation software helps users create interactive presentations for meetings or classroom courses. People create presentations by making several slides with key points and graphics. Each slide is a mini-book of information to help you understand a particular subject. It’s similar to compressing a Word document into the most essential points. Microsoft makes the most popular presentation software, called PowerPoint. You still need to elaborate your points to a crowd later on. The point is for the audience to learn from you, not a book. Presentations are a simple way to pass on information and keep crowds engaged.
Database applications store and retrieve information. Examples of database applications are university databases. Each application is helpful in itself and compliments the weaknesses of the others. For instance, word processors and data applications have opposite uses. Likewise, data management systems are good at finding information but not helpful for editing documents. Yet, people need data management systems and word processors to write a paper. Similarly, presentation software helps users present information, while spreadsheets help users make sense of data. Lastly, a database finds quantitative data sets for a spreadsheet or qualitative references for publishing, which produces the information for a PowerPoint.
